Built from

Etymology. From vi- (apart, asunder) + √neti (to lead). The prefix vi- gives the sense of leading away or apart: concrete imagery of separating or directing something in different directions becomes the abstract sense of training, guiding, or removing. Sanskrit equivalent vyanayati; cognates in Latin dūcere (to lead; duc- in education, educate) and English lead, though the Pali retains the distinctive vi- prefix absent from those cognates.
