masc nom sg of pahīna (pp)
Etymology. pa- (forward, out) + √hī (to leave, abandon). The prefix pa- adds the sense of completion or intensity to the root √hī (cognate with Sanskrit hīyate, Greek cheiō 'to pour out'), yielding 'thoroughly abandoned' or 'completely left behind'. The spatial sense of pa- (forth, forward) evolved into the notion of active abandonment or dispelling.
