Etymology. From Proto-Indo-European *dwō(h), whence also Sanskrit dvi, Greek dúo, Latin duo, English two, German zwei. The Pali form dvi (and its plural duve) preserves the old neuter dual inflection, repurposed as a collective plural in later usage.
