The prefix sam- brings things together into one; abhi- adds the sense of bearing down on or toward; the negation an- reverses the whole. In Buddhist doctrine, sambuddha ('completely awakened') is an epithet of the Buddha and the arhat; anabhisambuddha is the state of one who has not yet achieved that highest awakening.
