come, reverend“āyāmāvuso, Kassapakassapa, where venerableyenāyasmā Sāriputtasāriputto we will approach theretenupasaṅkamissāma to hear the teachingdhammassavanāyā”ti.

Come, friendĀyāmāvuso Revata,revata, where Venerableyenāyasmā Sāriputtasāriputto there we will approachtenupasaṅkamissāma for hearing Dhamma.”dhammassavanāyā”ti.
“Yes, friend,”“Evamāvuso”ti indeedkho Venerableāyasmā Revatarevato to Venerableāyasmato Ānandaānandassa assented.paccassosi.

welcomeSvāgataṁ of the venerableāyasmato Ānandaānandassa of the Blessed Onebhagavato the attendantupaṭṭhākassa of the Blessed Onebhagavato dwelling nearsantikāvacarassa.
lovely,Ramaṇīyaṁ, friendāvuso Ānanda,ānanda, the Gosiṅga sal forest,gosiṅgasālavanaṁ, brightdosinā night,ratti, all in full bloomsabbaphāliphullā sal trees,sālā, heavenly,dibbā, it seems,maññe, scentsgandhā float about;sampavanti;
by what kind ofkathaṁrūpena, friendāvuso Ānanda,ānanda, mendicantbhikkhunā the Gosiṅga sal forestgosiṅgasālavanaṁ would grace?”sobheyyā”ti?
Here, friend“Idhāvuso Sāriputta,sāriputta, a mendicantbhikkhu very learnedbahussuto ishoti rememberingsutadharo keeping what is learned.sutasannicayo. whichYe thosete teachingsdhammā good in the beginningādikalyāṇā good in the middlemajjhekalyāṇā good in the endpariyosānakalyāṇā meaningfulsātthā well-phrased;sabyañjanā; entirely fullkevalaparipuṇṇaṁ pureparisuddhaṁ spiritual practicebrahmacariyaṁ they describe,abhivadanti, of such kind for himtathārūpāssa teachingsdhammā very learnedbahussutā are,honti, remembered,dhātā, by speechvacasā rehearsed,paricitā, mentally scrutinized,manasānupekkhitā, by viewdiṭṭhiyā well penetrated.suppaṭividdhā.
heSo of the fourcatassannaṁ assembliesparisānaṁ the teachingdhammaṁ teachesdeseti with well-roundedparimaṇḍalehi words and phrasespadabyañjanehi coherentanuppabandhehi for uprooting the underlying tendencies.anusayasamugghātāya.
by such kind ofEvarūpena indeed,kho, friendāvuso Sāriputta,sāriputta, mendicantbhikkhunā the Gosiṅga sal forestgosiṅgasālavanaṁ would grace.”sobheyyā”ti.

thusEvaṁ when saidvutte, venerableāyasmā Sāriputtasāriputto venerableāyasmantaṁ Revatarevataṁ said thisetadavoca:
answered“byākataṁ indeedkho, friendāvuso Revatarevata, by the venerableāyasmatā Ānandaānandena according to his ownyathāsakaṁ inspirationpaṭibhānaṁ.
thereTattha nowdāni wemayaṁ venerableāyasmantaṁ Revatarevataṁ we askpucchāma:
delightful‘ramaṇīyaṁ, friendāvuso Revatarevata, Gosiṅga sal grovegosiṅgasālavanaṁ, cleardosinā nightratti, all in full bloomsabbaphāliphullā sal treessālā, heavenlydibbā, I thinkmaññe, fragrancesgandhā waftsampavanti;
of what kindkathaṁrūpena, friendāvuso Revatarevata, by a mendicantbhikkhunā Gosiṅga sal grovegosiṅgasālavanaṁ would gracesobheyyā’”ti?
here, friend“Idhāvuso Sāriputtasāriputta, a mendicantbhikkhu who enjoys retreatpaṭisallānārāmo ishoti who loves retreatpaṭisallānarato, internallyajjhattaṁ committed to serenity of the heartcetosamathamanuyutto not neglecting absorptionanirākatajjhāno, with discernmentvipassanāya endowedsamannāgato, a frequenterbrūhetā of empty hutssuññāgārānaṁ.
of such kindEvarūpena indeedkho, friendāvuso Sāriputtasāriputta, by a mendicantbhikkhunā Gosiṅga sal grovegosiṅgasālavanaṁ would gracesobheyyā”ti.

thusEvaṁ when spokenvutte, venerableāyasmā Sāriputtasāriputto venerableāyasmantaṁ Anuruddhaanuruddhaṁ said thisetadavoca:
answered“byākataṁ indeedkho, friendāvuso Anuruddhaanuruddha, by the venerableāyasmatā Revatarevatena according to his ownyathāsakaṁ inspirationpaṭibhānaṁ.

delightful‘ramaṇīyaṁ, friendāvuso Anuruddhaanuruddha, the Gosiṅga sal grovegosiṅgasālavanaṁ, cleardosinā nightratti, all in full bloomsabbaphāliphullā sal treessālā, heavenlydibbā, it seemsmaññe, fragrancesgandhā waftsampavanti;
of what kindkathaṁrūpena, friendāvuso Anuruddhaanuruddha, by a mendicantbhikkhunā the Gosiṅga sal grovegosiṅgasālavanaṁ would gracesobheyyā’”ti?
here, friend“Idhāvuso Sāriputtasāriputta, a mendicantbhikkhu with clairvoyancedibbena with the eyecakkhunā purifiedvisuddhena surpassing the humanatikkantamānusakena a thousandsahassaṁ of worldslokānaṁ surveysvoloketi.
just asSeyyathāpi, friendāvuso Sāriputtasāriputta, with clear eyescakkhumā a personpuriso gone to the upper floor of a longhouseuparipāsādavaragato a thousandsahassaṁ of orbitsnemimaṇḍalānaṁ could surveyvolokeyya;
just soevameva indeedkho, friendāvuso Sāriputtasāriputta, a mendicantbhikkhu with clairvoyancedibbena with the eyecakkhunā purifiedvisuddhena surpassing the humanatikkantamānusakena a thousandsahassaṁ of worldslokānaṁ surveysvoloketi.
of such a kindEvarūpena indeedkho, friendāvuso Sāriputtasāriputta, by a mendicantbhikkhunā the Gosiṅga sal grovegosiṅgasālavanaṁ would gracesobheyyā”ti.
